Blackjack Strategies That Will Lose You Money

Blackjack Strategies That Will Lose You Money
Since nobody wants to lose money, learning which blackjack strategies work to your advantage and which ones work against you is essential. There are a number of common mistakes that beginner blackjack players often make. Avoiding those mistakes can increase your chances of winning a great deal. In the article below you'll learn specific habits and techniques to avoid at the blackjack tables.
Blackjack Strategies that DO NOT Work
Aiming for 21 - This is a common mistake that inexperienced blackjack players make when they first start playing. Although the game is built around the concept of getting your cards to equal 21, aiming for 21 is actually a terrible strategy. The odds of getting 21 are very low, so you'll wind up busting most of the time.
Getting insurance - Getting insurance is never a good idea. The odds are never in your favor, so you are only increasing the house's overall edge over you. The only time you should ever consider insurance is if you're an expert card counter.
My luck is bound to change - This is one of the worst strategies that you can use in your game play. Just because you've been stuck in a losing streak for a long time doesn't necessarily mean you are due for a winning streak. Thinking that you will win eventually can lead to even more losses.
Relying on card counting - Unless you have studied and practiced card counting extensively, you should not use it. Card counting is a very effective system if you know what you're doing. Counting cards incorrectly on the other hand can lead to disaster.
Blackjack Strategies that DO Work
Learn Basic Strategy - Mastering your blackjack strategy chart will give you the best chance of doing well at the blackjack table.
Reading Blackjack Books - You will find tips, tricks and Blackjack strategies by reading the right reference books about the game.
Practice Blackjack Often - Just like in any other game, practice makes perfect. Whether it comes to using basic strategy or card counting, the only way to improve is to practice blackjack as often as you can.
As you can see, some Blackjack strategies work and some don't. Some are even dangerous to employ as they will only cause you to lose more money. By knowing which blackjack strategies will work well for you, you decrease the house's edge and improve you chances of winning.

Tips to Extend Your Card Counting Career

Tips to Extend Your Card Counting Career
As a potential card counter there are ways to act and things you can do when you play that will help to keep you playing. After all, wouldn't it be foolish to spend hours a day for several months learning basic strategy and card counting techniques only to be barred from playing on your first casino visit?
Professional card counters have to be actors to survive. They must sell the pit crew on the fact that they are just regular players.
They do the things that normal players do. They cheer when they win a nice bet. They ask for comps, apply for comp cards if offered. They draw less attention to themselves. They tip the dealers. I will get arguments on tipping from many card counters. They say they are giving away their hard earned money for no reason. I disagree. Tipping makes up most of a dealers income and tips are appreciated. I've been tipping them my entire counting career and have never been barred. I have been counting cards for 31 years and feel that tipping the dealers has had something to do with that longevity.
As I see it, if the dealer has an idea that you are a card counter and you don't tip there is a good chance that he will report his or her suspicions. But, if you tip they more than likely will not. Ask yourself, why would the dealer take money away from his family by turning you in? Wouldn't he be killing the goose that lays the golden egg?
Another thing you can do to keep the heat off is to simply enjoy yourself, have a good time. Show a sense of humor, talk to other players , the dealer, the floor person, keep it light. if you stare intently at the cards and never acknowledge anyone else you may be branded as a counter. It is necessary to be able to hold a conversation at times, not every moment, while counting cards.
Keep your sessions short, two hours is an ideal session. You may be able to stretch it to four hours, depending on casino conditions. As soon as you make a mistake you should leave. You may be getting tired and tired people make mistakes and I'm sure that you know that mistakes cost you money. Now, two hours is an ideal time for more than one reason. You should be fresh and alert for two hours. Equally as important is that for an hour before the pit crew goes home until an hour after the next shift starts the pit crew is usually bogged down with paperwork and has little time to watch the games in progress. So, how can you work this to your advantage? Simple, all you need to do is discretely find out when the pit crew changes shifts. Then play your two hour session for one hour prior to the shift change to one hour after the shift change. Don't confuse the pit crew shift with the dealers shift, they may be different.
Another thing you should do is, when you are winning discretely take chips off of the table so it appears that you aren't winning as much as you are. The best time to do this is when the dealers change. There is no possible way that the dealers can keep track of your exact winnings and the less you are winning the less heat. A warning, don't get carried away with this though, one or two green chips every dealer change is plenty.
If possible, try to play at a table where you are not the biggest bettor. The biggest bettor will always get the most attention from the pit crew. Also, play with green and red chips if your big bet is $200 or less. The reason is that the dealer is required to announce to the pit crew when a player raises his bet by using black chips. You may have heard the dealer shout out "black in action". If you use green chips they don't announce it.
Use these tips and your card counting career should be long and fruitful.

The Perfect Count

The Perfect Count
There are typically 3 different levels of card counting strategies that you could choose to learn. The value assigned to each individual card will determine its complexity and accuracy. As cards are being dealt during a game of blackjack, it affects the cards that remain. Having a value assigned to each card as they are dealt allows you to mathematically determine whether the remaining cards have increased your chances of winning or not. Each card affects the remaining cards slightly differently than the other; it is for this reason only that Level 2 and Level 3 counts exist. The benefit of using a Level 2 or a Level 3 count is that they are more accurate and therefore increase your overall profit. Finding the perfect balance between ease and accuracy however is crucial. It serves no purpose to use the easiest count if it doesn't make enough profit; it also serves no purpose to learn the most difficult count if it's too hard to do at the table.
Level 1: This count is most often referred to as a High/Low count, it is the easiest to learn but will yield the least amount of profit. Each card is assigned either a value of +1 or -1.
The assigned values are as follows:
• 2 Thru 6. These cards are counted as +1 as they are dealt.
• 7, 8`s and 9`s. These cards are assigned no value and are therefore ignored as they are dealt.
• 10`s and Aces. These cards are counted as -1 as they are dealt.
Level 2 and Level 3 counts have different values assigned to each card (instead of just +1 or -1). In a level 2 count some cards will be assigned a value of +2 and -2, and obviously in a level 3 count some cards will have a value of +3 or -3.
Factors that affect the overall advantage:
• The knowledge of Basic Strategy.
• The Violations to basic strategy when it is required.
• The method used to convert the Running Count into the True Count.
• The Betting Spread that is applied.
• The number of Decks in the game (single, double or multi deck).
• Penetration Points.
• The amount of hands played Per Hour.
• The Casino Rules.
• Which Level Count is being applied.
These are all of the factors that affect your overall advantage when counting cards. The more accurate your count is, the less these factors will influence your hourly rate.
